Eight Firefighters Honored, Oct. 8-14 Designated as Fire Prevention Week

Eight members of the Upper St. Clair Volunteer Fire Department were honored with Certificates of Appreciation on Monday, Oct. 2, at the Board of Commissioners meeting for their years of service to the community.

  • Dan Ferguson – 45 years
  • Jerry Kopach – 40 years
  • Drew Gerlach – 25 years
  • Michael Moore – 20 years
  • Michael Chornack – 5 years
  • Alex Gillespie – 5 years
  • Abbey Scannell – 5 years
  • Ross Taylor – 5 years

Commissioner Robert W. Orchowski presented the honorees that were there in-person with certificates. He also presented a proclamation establishing Oct. 8-14 as Fire Prevention Week in Upper St. Clair. Fire Chief Ted Hale was in attendance with additional members of the USC Volunteer Fire Department to accept the proclamation.

“The volunteer fire department here in Upper St. Clair provides great service to our community,” said Orchowski. “Thank you to the ladies and gentlemen here and in the department. You all put in countless hours of training to serve us, and everyone in and around the community is forever grateful for what you do.”

This year’s Fire Prevention Week™ theme is “Cooking Safety Starts with You. Pay Attention to Fire Prevention™.” Residents are encouraged to check their kitchens for fire hazards and use safe cooking practices during the week and beyond.
