New Children's Library Is Open

The New Children’s Library area opened Monday, July 11, 2022.  In this initial stage of the new space, community members can enjoy direct access to a dedicated entrance from the rear parking lot along with an on-floor family restroom with changing station.  Monday’s hours are 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.  Visit the Library Hours page for more information on the rest of the week.

The space will be self-contained, so patrons will need to use the outdoor pedestrian walkway to the main library entrance to access additional sections of the library until the NextGen Municipal Building Renovation Project wraps up, anticipated late 2022.

When the renovations are complete, families can enjoy a larger playroom and multi-purpose room along with direct access to the new Adult Library area.  Stay tuned for more updates.

Improvements are still underway for the Upper St. Clair Library, Community Development Office, and Police Department. The NextGen Municipal Building Renovation Project construction has created the following relocations and closures:

-The Library parking lot remains closed during renovations of the Police Department.  Residents are encouraged to park at the side parking lot near the Veterans Park and Clair’s Kennel where signs will direct you to a pedestrian walkway to the main Library entrance.

-The Municipal Playground remains open but cannot be accessed at the Library parking lot, residents are encouraged to park at the McLaughlin Run Activity Center (MAC), 1770 McLaughlin Run Road.

-The Adult Fiction area of the Upper St. Clair Library, including the DVDs and CDs area is currently closed.  Stay tuned for updates on this new space, expected to open late July, 2022.

If you can't find the book you're looking for, or if the book you would like is in an inaccessible area, library staff can order a copy of the book for you from another Allegheny County library. You may also reserve the book online by clicking Search Catalog on the Library website. Also keep in mind, our eBooks, streaming entertainment sites and more are available 24/7 for free with your library card.

As a reminder, the Community Development office has moved to its new location at the front entrance of the Municipal Building to the right of the Administrative Offices and Tax Office and the IdentoGO fingerprinting service has moved to a new temporary location located on the lower left side of the Township building and will continue to operate from 10 AM until 2 PM, Monday through Friday.  Appointments can be scheduled at www.identogo.com

NextGen Municipal Building Renovation Project Background
Planning for the NextGen Municipal Building Renovation Project began in September 2019 when the Upper St. Clair School District moved out of their wing of the Municipal Building. Construction began in the former school district wing in November 2021 and the overall project is expected to be complete by the end of 2022 or early 2023.

The children's library will move from the third floor to the same floor as the adult library. A large connector is being built to connect the existing adult library and new children's library. In addition, crews are adding bathrooms to children's library area.

On top of the library connector, residents will be able to enjoy a new rooftop deck.

Also included in the NextGen Project, the Upper St. Clair Police Department will receive a much-needed expansion and the Department of Community Development and Planning will move from the lower level of the building to the main, front lobby. After the project, residents will be able to access the Township Administration, Community Development and Planning, Police and Indentogo from the main front doors.

Township staff thanks residents for their patience and understanding during the project. We hope you feel the temporary inconvenience will be worth it in the end.
