Upper St. Clair Presents Proclamations and Certificates for Swim Team Members

The Upper St. Clair Board of Commissioners presented certificates and proclamations recognizing the Upper St. Clair boys swim team for its first place win overall at the WPIAL Championship and the following team members for their individual wins at the  WPIAL and PIAA Championships:

-Josh Matheny received a proclamation. Mr. Matheny captured the Swimming State Title Class AAA at the 2021 PIAA Championship, winning a gold medal for first place in the 100-yard breaststroke for the fourth straight year with a finish time of 51.84 seconds. He broke his own school, PIAA and NFHS records and became the first swimmer in Pennsylvania high school history to break 52 seconds. Mr. Matheny captured two more gold medals at the PIAA Championship in the 200-yard individual medley with a finish time of 1:47.54 and as a member of the boys' 200-yard medley relay team with a finish time of 1:31.42, earning Mr. Matheny the title of PIAA Boys Swimmer of the Meet. At the WPIAL Championship, Mr. Matheny won two gold medals for first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a finish time of 54.40 and as a member of the 200-yard medley relay team with a finish time of 1:33.33. Mr. Matheny also placed second at the WPIAL Championship in the 200-yard individual medley and assisted his team by capturing sixth place in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Mr. Matheny plans to swim for the Indiana University in Bloomington and has qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials.

-Jason Zhang received a proclamation. The Upper St. Clair High School senior captured the Swimming State Title Class AAA at the PIAA Championship by assisting his team in winning a gold medal for first place in the 200-yard medley relay with a finish time of 1:31.42. At the WPIAL Championship, Mr. Zhang assisted his team in winning a gold medal for first place in the 200-yard medley relay with a finish time of 1:33.33, sixth place in the 400-yard freestyle relay, and 12th place in the 100-yard butterfly. 

-Ganesh Sivaramakrishnan received a proclamation. Mr. Sivaramakrishnan captured the Swimming State Title Class AAA at the PIAA Championship by assisting his team in winning a gold medal for first place in the 200-yard medley relay with a finish time of 1:31.42.  He also captured two bronze medals for the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard backstroke, in addition to assisting his team to an eighth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. At the WPIAL Championship, Mr. Sivaramakrishnan assisted his team in winning two gold medals in the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay. Additionally, the Upper St. Clair High School junior placed second in the 100-yard butterfly and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke.

-Ryan Senchyshak received a proclamation. The Upper St. Clair High School junior captured the Swimming State Title Class AAA at the PIAA Championship by assisting his team in winning a gold medal for first place in the 200-yard medley relay with a finish time of 1:31.42. He also assisted his team to an eighth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. At the WPIAL Championships, he assisted his team in winning the 200-yard freestyle relay, captured sixth place in the 50-yard freestyle, assisted his team in a sixth place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay; and placed ninth in the 100-yard freestyle.

-Daniel Wang received a certificate of achievement for assisting his team in winning the 2021 WPIAL Championship, setting pool records in the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay; for placing eighth in the 100-yard backstroke; placing 15th in the 50-yard freestyle; and for assisting the team in placing 8th at the PIAA Championships in the 200-yard freestyle relay. 

-Ethan Neal received a certificate of achievement for assisting his team in winning the 2021 WPIAL Championship in the 200-yard freestyle relay; for placing sixth in the 400-yard freestyle relay; for placing ninth in the 100-yard backstroke; tying for 10th place in the 200-yard freestyle; and for assisting his team in placing eighth at the PIAA Championships in the 200-yard freestyle relay. 

-Taylor Connors received a certificate of achievement on winning the 2021 WPIAL Championship in the 200-yard freestyle; the 100-yard freestyle; assisting her team in winning the 200-yard freestyle replay; and for placing second int he 400-yard freestyle relay. At the PIAA Championships, Taylor Connors placed third in the 200-yard freestyle relay and fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

-Kaitlyn Connors received a certificate of achievement for winning the 2021 WPIAL Championship in the 50-yard freestyle; assisting her team in winning the 200-yard freestyle relay; for placing second in the 400-yard freestyle replay; and for placing third in the 100-yard freestyle. At the PIAA Championship, Kaitlyn Connors assisted her team in placing third in the 200-yard freestyle record and fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay. 

-Amanda Aidar received a certificate of achievement for assisting her team in winning the 2021 WPIAL Championship in the 200-yard freestyle relay and placed second in the 400-yard freestyle relay; placed seventh in the 200 individual medley; and ninth in the 100 yard butterfly. At the PIAA, Miss Aidar assisted her team in a third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay and placed fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay. 

-Abby Rutkowksi received a certificate of achievement for assisting her team in winning the 2021 WPIAL Championship in the 200-yard freestyle relay; for placing second in the 400-yard freestyle relay; for placing third in the 200-yard freestyle; and for placing sixth in the 100-yard freestyle. At the PIAA, Miss Rutkowski assisted her team in placing third in the freestyle replay and fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
