Upper St. Clair Recognizes Speech and Debate Team

The Upper St. Clair Board of Commissioners issued an official proclamation congratulating the Upper St. Clair High School speech and debate team for capturing the Pennsylvania High School Speech League (PHSSL) Championship for the third time since 2017. Commissioner Richard I. Thomas presented the proclamation to Coach Ben Edwards and team representatives on Monday night.

"I had seven children go through Upper St. Clair High School and I continue to follow the high school affairs. You bring great honor to our Township," Commissioner Thomas told the team.

Upper St. Clair High School competed against 79 schools state-wide at the virtual championship on March 19-20, 2022. They placed first in the debate sweepstakes, the speech sweepstakes, and the overall large school sweepstakes, defeating rival North Allegheny High School in all three categories. Forty-six students qualified for the championship and 26 of those students advanced to the second day of competition. Special recognitions were made for seniors Dev Patel and Rushikesh Kulkarni, who closed out their careers in parliamentary debate winning Upper St. Clair High School's fourth PHSSL Championship in that event.
