Eagle Scout Recognized After Building a Bridge in Boyce Mayview Park

The Upper St. Clair Board of Commissioners presented a proclamation to John Scherer on Tuesday night, recognizing the attainment of the Eagle Scout Rank.

John, of Scout Troop 366, completed his Eagle Scout project as a service to our community where he expended 300 hours with more than 35 volunteers building a wooden footbridge over a muddy section of the Wetlands Bluff Trail in Boyce Mayview Park. The project, completed during the height of the pandemic, extended the existing bridge by approximately 70 feet.

"Originally it was an extremely muddy spot," John told the commissioners. "(The footbridge) helps trail users, including myself, enjoy the trails."

John is a junior at Upper St. Clair High School who also competes in three sports: cross county, wrestling and track.

Board President Mark D. Christie, a former Eagle Scout, congratulated and thanked John and presented him with a National Eagle Scout Association lapel pin.
