USCHS Boys' Basketball Team Given Certificate of Achievement

At the Board of Commissioners regular meeting on June 3, the Upper St. Clair High School boys' basketball team was awarded a Certificate of Achievement for their victory in the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) Class 6A Championship and their advancement to the quarterfinals of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Championships.

Commissioner Todd D. Burlingame presented the entire team, plus head coach and athletic director Danny Holzer, with the certificate.

“I loved watching this team play,” said Commissioner Burlingame. “You guys worked so hard, and it was fun to watch. Congratulations on such an incredible achievement. The whole Township was and still is behind you—we are all looking forward to watching this team next year as well.”

“Thank you for everybody’s support,” said Holzer. “The Township and School District are always supportive of our student-athletes, and we are very appreciative of that. We worked hard all year and it paid off. I’m so proud of this team.”

In the WPIAL championship game on March 3, USC took down Baldwin, 64-41, at the Peterson Events Center. The win marked the second WPIAL title for the Panthers in four seasons. After hoisting the trophy, USC would go on to win two more games in the state playoffs before eventually falling to Central York in the quarterfinals. The Panthers finished their impressive season with a 22-6 record.
