Department ofRecreation and LeisureMunicipal Tennis CourtsDifferent Strokes Tennis League | Paddle Tennis | Summer Tennis Program Tennis Bubble Program | Tennis Instruction Summer Tennis ProgramUpper St. Clair maintains 10 tennis courts in the Municipal Park on McLaughlin Run Road. Permits and a tennis Photo I.D. are required for outdoor tennis play on the Municipal Courts. For those not wishing to purchase permits, neighborhood tennis courts are available on a first-come, first-served basis at Baker Park, Byrnwick Park, Hays Park, Johnston Park, and Trotwood Park. These neighborhood courts are not available on a permit basis and, except for Baker, do not have lights. Resident usage is first-come first-served. Occasionally, however, the Baker Courts may be reserved for tennis instruction. Copies of the Rules and Regulations for the season are available at the Department of Recreation and Leisure Services or at the Municipal Tennis Courts. Registration for the Summer Tennis Program usually begins the first part of April. Check the Spring/Summer Township Recreation Brochure for registration information and fees. Tennis Bubble ProgramThe 2010-2011 Indoor Tennis Bubble Season is scheduled to start October 4, 2010 and run for 28 weeks through April 17, 2011. Season PermitsParticipants are able to purchase individual hours of play during the indoor season. A purchased permit hour enables the owner to play during that purchased hour each week for the 28-week season. Participants must play at their scheduled hour. Make-ups or rescheduled hours for missed times are not permitted. Available indoor tennis times will go on sale on a first-come, first-served basis beginning Wednesday, September 15 at 8:00 a.m. at the Recreation Department office located at the Community & Recreation Center, 1551 Mayview Road. The season's total fee must be paid at the time of each purchase of an indoor tennis bubble season permit. Random TimePlayers who do not wish to purchase a permanent season hour may schedule random hours of tennis up to 72 hours in advance by telephoning the Tennis/Golf Administration Building at 412.831.7556. Reservations for all times will be maintained at the tennis administration building (Tennis Hut) once the paddle tennis winter season begins.
Paddle Tennis Permits are also available. Different StrokesDifferent Strokes is a nonprofit resident group run by a committee of volunteers with the assistance of the Recreation Department. Their main purpose is to organize sessions of tennis for Upper St. Clair residents of all abilities to play with a variety of partners and opponents. There are four (4) sign-up sessions per year (first-come, first-served basis):
All sessions include weekday mornings and evenings for women's doubles, weekday evenings and weekend daytimes for men's doubles, and Friday nights for mixed doubles. Men's and women's singles games can be set up on Tuesday and Friday nights if there is enough demand. In addition to organizing league play, Different Strokes holds several mixed socials each year.
