Boyce Mayview Park seeks to create a new regional asset, integrating land and buildings into a dynamic, extended classroom to fulfill Pennsylvania’s environmental education requirements and create a captivating and beautiful place to inspire visitors of all ages. This facility will create a deeper understanding of the region’s heritage, clarify present-day environmental issues, and impact the future by acting as a catalyst for systemic change by establishing a precedent for future development in Boyce Mayview Park and throughout the region.
The complex will model total resource conservation by marshalling the cultural, intellectual, and material resources of the region into sensitive responses that are clearly evident to the visitor. Buildings and landscape will offer visitors a privileged experience in the natural environment and support a variety of programs and demonstrations about the critical factors impacting the environment and quality of life in Pennsylvania.
Uniquely situated at the threshold between the recreational zone and nature preserve within the Park, the complex will symbolically protect the environment from the public. Through the “filter” of education and modeling, visitors will transition into the site with a heightened sensitivity, awakening their senses to the possibility and benefits of designing with nature. As a place of active learning and intimate connection to natural systems, the Center will elucidate for visitors a deep and personal understanding of the perpetual relationships between their community and the natural environment.
