Project Safe Neighbor
Project Safe Neighbor is a dual purpose program designed to help keep youngsters safe and crime at a minimum within the Township. With well over 500 members, a network of safe homes has been established where young people could turn for help if they found themselves in an emergency situation.School age children are introduced to the benefits of the program at yearly assemblies conducted by officers.
In addition, these hundreds of extra "neighborhood sentinels" act as a tremendous crime deterrent and assist patrols by reporting suspicious activity.
Becoming a volunteer is very simple and requires no commitment of time or money.
- All applicants consent to a record check and upon approval are issued a Project Safe Neighbor sticker to be displayed in a front window.
- Members are then assigned to one of fifty zones with a captain and co-captain as liaison for each of these geographical sectors.
- New members also receive a set of guidelines from which to operate should the need ever arise.
- Volunteers have no official capacity other than that of Citizen.
- They take no action other than to call police or the appropriate official when their assistance is sought.
Project Safe Neighbor is an important community program. The objective of the program is a safer community and a township whose residents appear to be united in their concern for each other.
