Upper St. Clair Historical Society

Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania

The purpose of the Upper St. Clair Historical Society is to collect, file, and distribute historical information on Upper St. Clair. Our collection consists of tapes of more than 50 early residents of the township.

We have three booklets: "A Pictorial History", "Upper St. Clair As It Was" by Margaret Gilfillan, and "School Days, 1970's to 1990's" by Rachel Heins. These booklets can be found in the Vertical File at the library. "The Several St. Clairs" is a video that was produced about 10 years ago and is also available in the library.

Our slide collection is extensive and is used to instruct the second graders in our schools every year and to give historical talks to many groups in and outside of the township. We also have many photos.

We have participated in the Community Foundation's tapes of the community.

We are always in the process of adding information to our "Early Family Files". These are extensive in some cases, such as the Boyce Family, which is some 600 pages long.

We have some early books with information on Upper St. Clair and a collection of maps. We also have the Upper St. Clair High School yearbooks and the Upper St. Clair Today magazine, where we participate in the "Yesterday" section.

Our files include articles on the schools, churches, police, firemen, Women's Club, travel and transportation, Indians, Arthur St. Clair, and the Mayview Property where we have given many hours to the Boyce-Mayview Consultants.

We have a collection of mining equipment from the Beadling Area and have placed the "Old Beadling Post Office" in our township Post Office. Many artifacts from this old post office are in our display case.

We receive many calls a month from residents and travelers passing through our community. We also receive calls from teachers and students writing term papers and doing historical research.
