Computer / Internet Policy

The Children's Internet Protection Act is a federal law that requires all computers in a public library to be filtered if that library accepts federal funds for Internet access. All computers in our library are filtered.

As with other materials, restriction of a minor's access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian.

Not all sources on the Internet provide accurate, complete, or current information. The USC Township Library disclaims any liability or responsibility that arises from access to or use of information obtained through its electronic information systems or any consequences thereof.

Please Note:

  • A current Upper St. Clair Township Library card or an EIN card is required. Users must present a valid card upon request.
  • A time limit of one hour will be imposed when patrons are waiting for an available station.
  • Children under the age of twelve are to use the Internet stations on the Children's floor with the supervision of their parents or guardians.
  • Accessing/displaying sexually explicit materials that are offensive to accepted standards of decency or modesty is prohibited by law (18 PA Cons. Stat. Sec 5903).
  • Use of personal software is prohibited. Documents may not be saved to the hard drive. The CD ROM drive is not available. Diskettes are available at the Reference Desk for a minimal charge.
  • Printing costs are 15 cents per page, to be paid in advance. The Library does not refund money for unwanted print jobs.
  • Library staff will provide limited assistance to patrons.
  • When you finish, click the "Logout" box. Do not shut down the computer. When you leave the computer and Reference area, the computer is open to other patrons. Do not leave unattended personal items at computer stations.
