Summer "Ready to Read"
for Babies, Toddlers, Preschoolers and Kindergartners

Ready to Read is designed for children from birth through the completion of kindergarten.

Children begin learning pre-reading skills from birth.

Ready to Read, our award-winning summer library program, is designed to help young children acquire pre-reading skills with fun and educational parent-directed activities.

When you register you'll receive your activity guide complete with information about ready to read skills, ready to read activities, an activity log, and instructions for participating in the program. Participants will receive fun rewards for completing weekly activities.

Registration begins on Monday June 9.

Ready to Read begins on Monday June 16 and runs through Thursday, July 24.

Summer Reading
for School-Age Children

Summer Reading is designed for children who have completed first through eighth grades.

Kids who read succeed. The summer reading program is a fun way to encourage your child to spend time reading! Participating in summer reading can play an important role in creating fluent, lifelong readers.

Participants will receive their own personal reading log to record the titles of the books they have read. Children will receive one ticket for each book read for a weekly drawing of prizes. The more you read, the greater your chance of winning.

Registration begins on Monday June 9.

Reporting begins on Monday June 16 and runs through Thursday, July 24.

Summer 2008 Programs

Join the staff of the Children's Library for a fun morning in the park. We'll be creating with paints, scissors, play dough, chalk, shaving cream, bubbles and a few surprises. Remember to dress for a mess and keep your finger crossed for sunshine and blue skies. Additional parking is available at the USC Recreation Center.

Who:Kids up to 6 years of age accompanied by a parent, grandparent, or caregiver
When:Friday, June 6 from 10 a.m. - Noon
Where:Tot Lot next to the Library (In case of rain, activities will be moved to the Children's Library)

Registration begins Monday, May 19.

Ready To Read Adventures

Come to the Library for a fun and educational morning filled with crafts, games and activities based on different learning concepts.

girlI'm Going To First Grade!

Getting ready to read can be fun! All kids who have completed kindergarten are invited to participate in this hour long program. Once again, this year we will be featuring our canine volunteers Molly and Piper! Each week Norman and Rona Pookman, volunteers for Therapy Dogs International, will be bringing their dogs who love to hear stories read by boys and girls. We'll also be planning activities, games, and stories designed to reinforce ready to read skills.

Who:All kids who are going into 1st grade dragon
When:Wednesdays, June 18 - July 9 at 2:15 p.m.
