1995 Comprehensive Plan
The findings of the 1995 Comprehensive Plan remarked on the need to support pedestrian and bicyclist traffic. A summary of these points follows:
Community Mobility Objectives (p. 2)
- Create a safe, free-flowing circulation system for motor vehicles and pedestrians.
- Accommodate pedestrian traffic in a safe and practical manner.
Pedestrian Ways and Bikeways (p. 41)
- Continue to explore opportunities for trails, sidewalks and bikeways.
- Evaluate the use of the Conrail spur as a multi-purpose trail.
Bicycle Facilities Study (p. 18-19 of Transportation Plan)
- The purpose of this comprehensive study was to develop a multi-modal transportation
plan.
- The routes [selected] would directly address transportation needs due to their ability to
serve several activity centers, such as the Municipal Center, Upper St. Clair High School,
Drake Loop, Wiltshire Park and Commercial District.
- Trans Associates (traffic engineers) also recommends that bike racks be installed at Township Parks, other municipal facilities and commercial enterprises. The racks will encourage the use of bicycles throughout the Township.
Pedestrian Improvements (p. 19-20 of Transportation Plan)
- To provide safe and convenient pedestrian access to different points in the Township
- A series of sidewalks should be constructed to form a "Loop" within the Township
- Encourage the use of alternate modes of transportation such as public transit, bikeways, and sidewalks
