Sidewalks & Bikeways
Department ofCommunity DevelopmentSidewalks & BikewaysSidewalks and BikewaysThe Community Development Department has developed a plan for a network of sidewalks and bikeways for the Township of Upper St. Clair. This site provides information on the design, goals, research, and recent developments of that plan. The strong belief that sidewalks and bikeways are a critical component of desirable communities has been evident from the initial comprehensive update of the Sidewalks and Bikeways Plan in 1998 by former Director of Community Development, Pat Jones. Current Director, Matthew R. Serakowski and the Community Development staff provide various resources to help educate the public, and forward that belief. In addition to a handout and this web site, a slide show that explores many aspects of a sidewalk and bikeway network in Upper St.Clair is available for presentation to interested groups. Please contact the department for further information. "Residential areas that do not depend totally on cars - where residents can walk or bicycle to recreation and essential shopping - will become more desirable as people grow increasingly intolerant of traffic. The more pedestrian friendly an area is, the better." "Suburbs in Flux" Urban Land, March 1998, p. 43 |
