Department ofCommunity DevelopmentCode EnforcementDay CareThe Township Code Section 130.3.69-70 defines day care in a dwelling as a facility, located within a dwelling for the care, on a regular basis, during part of a twenty-four hour day, of not more than six (6) children under sixteen (16) years of age, excluding care provided to children who are relatives of the provider. This use must be secondary to the use of the dwelling for living purposes. Such facility, providing care for between four (4) and six (6) children, shall be licensed by the Commonwealth. Day care facilities in residential dwellings are permitted as an accessory use permitted by right in residential zoning districts. Operators of home-based businesses such as day cares are required to obtain zoning approval. This is accomplished through a home occupation permit (PDF). |
