The Humane Society of the United States (H.S.U.S.) visited the Township the week of March 12, 2001 to determine if Upper St. Clair might be a viable site for a PZP Deer Birth Control Program. A PZP Program was not advised by the H.S.U.S.
An aerial deer count which occurred in early March 2000 counted 250 deer. This is a pre-birth count.
January - December 2000, the deer hunt total was 53. The road kill total was 127.
January - December 1999, the deer hunt total was 67. The road kill total was 130.
Strieter Lites (reflectors designed to deter deer from crossing roadways) have been installed for approximately one mile on Rt. 19 from the Peters Township line northward. Results over the past several years have not been encouraging.
