Development of Communication Program
The Township's website www.twpusc.org contains some of the history and results of the measures the Township has taken over the past several years with regard to deer management. It also provides residents with links to various sites which provide information on yard plantings that are somewhat deer resistant.
Installation of a Fence Enclosure
The installation of a fence enclosure somewhere on the Boyce-Mayview Park Property has not yet been undertaken. The project is pending further discussion with the Township's wildlife biologist and consultation with the Parks and Recreation Board as to placement.
Investigation / Installation of Deer Warning and Crossing Signs
In addition to the Strieter-Lites, PennDOT increased deer warning and crossing signage on SR19. It should be noted that according to PA Code, deer crossing and warning signs must be requested through the PA Game Commission.
Wildlife Biologist
Susan Bernatas, a wildlife biologist who works with Air-Scan, Inc. was selected to review and comment on various aspects of the Township's Deer Management Program. Susan was a part of the Air-Scan crew, which conducted an aerial infrared deer census of the Township in March. Due to Ms. Bernatas' extensive work and travel schedule, we were not able to have her comments in time for this report.
