September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Every year, 15,760 children are diagnosed with cancer in the United States. Most of these kids undergoing cancer treatment require blood or platelet transfusion. Don't let them fight alone. Please open up your heart and roll up your sleeves.
On July 28, 2018, about 70 children competed in the Boyce Mayview Park Youth Triathlon in Upper St. Clair. Spirits were high and the weather was perfect with a sunny sky and temperatures in the upper 60s.
Below are the official winners of the race. We also want to report that every child finished the race. That's a big accomplishment! Congratulations to everyone involved.

The annual building closure at the Community & Recreation Center at Boyce Mayview Park is coming up on Sunday, Aug. 19 - Friday, Aug. 24.
The indoor pool will close from Monday, Aug. 13 - Friday, Aug. 24.
Cleaning and maintenance will be performed during the closure.
The outdoor pool will remain open from 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. during the closure. In addition, outdoor lap swimming will be offered from 8:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. from Monday through Friday on Aug. 13-17 and Aug. 20-24. Please use the outdoor pool gate to enter the pool area.
Other hours of operation during the annual building closure from Aug. 19-24:
-Administrative office will be open weekdays 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
-Membership will be open weekdays 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

The Boyce Mayview Park Youth Triathlon is on July 28, 2018 from 7:30-9:00 a.m. Check-in is at 6:45 a.m.
The youth triathlon in Upper St. Clair is a way to get kids active and exercising in a friendly competition that tests their abilities in multiple facets of exercise.

The Community & Recreation Center at Boyce Mayview Park has an optional training program. It starts July 3.
1. Unsportsmanlike conduct on the part of participants or their parents and supporters will not be allowed. Participants must treat others with courtesy and respect. No rude, abusive or discourteous language or behavior will be tolerated.
2. Participants must complete the prescribed course in its entirety.
3. No unauthorized assistance of any kind is allowed. Non-participants may not run or ride a bicycle with a participant nor may they provide them with any food, fluid or equipment aid during the competition.
4. Race numbers must be displayed at all times. Swimmers must be clearly body-marked. Cyclists and runners must wear their bib numbers.

Make sure your bike is in tip top shape for the race:
Bring your bike to the pre-race meeting for a safety check. Bikes may be checked on the day of the race, but lines will be long. Get ahead of the game and check it the day before at the meeting. Tandem Bike Connection will be doing the official checks.

At 11 a.m., nonprofit groups from the community will open their booths with games and food to buy in McLaughlin Run Activity Center's (the MAC) parking lot, located at 1770 McLaughlin Run Road. The booth area will remain open until 4 p.m.
The parade will begin at 11:30 a.m. The parade will follow the route from Truxton Drive, along McLaughlin Run Road to Panther Pass, and back up to the high school. The best place to watch the parade is along McLaughlin Run Road. Consider bringing a bag or container for kids to collect candy thrown from the parade. This year's grand marshals are Dr. Patrick O'Toole, retiring superintendent of schools, and Joe Conners, retiring chief of school police. Pink Panthers is this year's theme.
New this year, the Upper St. Clair High School Student Council will host a continual Scavenger Hunt from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Kids can hunt for hidden "gems" that will be scattered around Community Day. Inside each "gem," a note will tell the finder to bring the "gem" and the paper to the Student Council booth to claim his/her prize.

At their March 5 meeting, the Township of Upper St. Clair Board of Commissioners approved the construction of a new tennis and golf administration building on McLaughlin Run Road.
The current structure next to the Upper St. Clair tennis courts is more than 30 years old and beyond its useful life.
Construction is set to begin in late spring. The 1,110-square-foot structure will house Upper St. Clair Tennis and Golf administration, storage for the tennis programs, a pavilion, and ADA-compliant bathrooms.
A new, blended-learning lifeguard course is available for those interested in a new lifeguard job. It includes approximately seven hours, 25 minutes of online learning and 20 hours of in-class skills.

Those who take the course must be 15 years old. In order to complete the lifeguard certification, one must attend all classes, pass all writing exams, perform all required skills with 100 percent accuracy, and pass the final scenario.
Lifeguard positions are now available at the Community and Recreation Center at 1551 Mayview Road in Upper St. Clair. Pick up your employment packet at the front desk to start your new lifeguarding job!

These students spent Martin Luther King, Jr. Day completing a variety of service projects at the Upper St. Clair Community & Recreation Center at Boyce Mayview Park.
More than 30 volunteers, including students from Upper St. Clair High School and the University of Pittsburgh, helped organize the community service acts. Some of the projects included making valentines and care bags for veterans; cookies for the homeless; thank you cards for local first responders; cat toys for rescue cats; and dog tugs and snuggle mats for rescue pit bulls.
A sincere thank you to everyone involved to make the C&RC's annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service event another big success!
Start the new year on the right foot by participating in the Upper St. Clair Community & Recreation Center's Winter Wellness Dash on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018 from noon until 3 p.m.
The first 100 participants (ages 6 and older) will receive winter beanies. Packet pick-up is on Saturday, Jan. 13 between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Registration for the Winter Wellness Dash will close at 9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 12. The $5 fee includes the winter beanie for all registrants ages 6 and older. Kids ages 5 and under participate for free.
The family fun run and walk is open to all ages and fitness levels and sticks to a moderately challenging paved route through Boyce Mayview Park. It's a great opportunity to keep your friends and family active during the winter. Strollers are welcome.
