Upper St. Clair Community Day Canceled

Upper St. Clair Community Day – a 40-year springtime tradition – is the latest casualty to the COVID-19 virus. Upper St. Clair leaders have made the difficult decision to cancel the event, which was set for Saturday, May 16, 2020.

“The decision is not taken lightly,” said Matthew R. Serakowski, manager of the Township of Upper St. Clair. “We made this decision out of concern for the safety and health of our community due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Community Day is an annual, collaborative effort between the Township of Upper St. Clair, the Upper St. Clair School District, the Upper St. Clair Volunteer Fire Department, Tri-Community South EMS, community groups and local businesses.

“We thank all the organizers and volunteers who have already put so much work into planning this year’s event,” said Dr. John Rozzo, superintendent of the Upper St. Clair School District. “All those efforts will be used to make next year’s Community Day even better.”

Previous Community Days have proceeded despite heavy rain, extreme heat and even some light morning snow flurries. This year marks the first Community Day cancellation since its debut on May 20, 1978.

Upper St. Clair’s Community Day 2020 was to include a fun run/walk, a parade, community game and food booths, and more.
