Community Recreation Center
Membership Information
The Community Recreation Center (CRC), a 90,000 sq. ft. fitness, aquatics, recreation and community center, is surrounded by 475 acres of nature and outdoor recreation in Boyce Mayview Park. The Groundbreaking ceremony was held on Monday November 26, 2007 with completion of the project scheduled for spring 2009.
Features
Architecturally the Community Recreation Center forms a bridge between the outdoors and indoors. The exterior design was to integrate with the Boyce Mayview Park setting and appear as a park structure with natural exterior materials; brick, cultured stone, a wood like siding and generous amounts of glazing to allow views into the building during the evening. In addition this allows day time participants spectacular views of the surrounding hills and park, woods and fields during the four seasons of the year.
Well thought out "Green" design elements have been utilized throughout the facility to minimize energy usage such as thermal efficient glass, super insulated building shell, the use of natural light and high-efficiency mechanical units, to name a few. The use of high recycle requirements on specific interior finishes and the use of native plantings and low water consumption plant landscaping have also been noted as "green" design elements.
Amenities
The center's first floor will offer a large community gathering area, two exercise rooms, senior/teen lounge, child care room, two poolside party rooms in addition to a 3600 sq. ft. community room, men's/women's lockers, family changing rooms and full size gymnasium. The large gymnasium can be subdivided and used for numerous recreation programs for all ages such as volleyball, basketball, badminton, after school programs, summer camps, teen events, and many others.
The Indoor Aquatics Center will host an interactive water structure and gadgets, slides, tots area, handicap lift, four lane lap pool and large whirlpool. Especially attractive to seniors is the zero depth entry to the pool and the indoor therapeutic resistance pool/lazy river which can be used to walk against the water's currents for low impact exercise. The resistance pool also includes a vortex for an intense workout and underwater benches for relaxation.
The second floor will contain a state of the art fitness area with Hammer Strength, Life Fitness and Expresso exercise equipment. The cardio equipment as well as the Expresso Bikes offer virtual trainers with an abundance of course and work out options. The low impact floor 1/8 mile walking/jogging track will overlook the first floor amenities as well as many outdoor view corridors.
Encompassing a total of 28,000 sq. ft. the Outdoor Aquatics Area will host 6,000 sq. ft. of water with zero depth entry, interactive water structure and gadgets, tot and teen slides, lily pads, handicap lift, three lane lap pool and underwater benches. Surrounding the aquatics area will be a grassy lawn and sand play area, covered pavilions, vending machines and separate outdoor men's/women's locker rooms and family changing rooms.
